The Slag Cement Association (SCA) will share their expertise as well as honor the industry’s top, award winning projects during the American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) Spring Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sponsored by ACI Committee 233, Slag Cement in Concrete and Mortar, an educational session titled “Using Slag Cement to Elevate Concrete Performance” is scheduled for Wed., March 28 at 8:30 a.m. The session will highlight examples of boosting concrete performance with slag cement, the usefulness of high slag cement content in concrete, and a special look at how slag cement was used to upgrade a 100-year-old cement plant.
During the second half of the session, the SCA will present the 2017 Slag Cement Project of the Year awards. An overview of the nine winning projects will be given in the categories of architectural design, durability, green design, high performance, innovative applications, and sustainability. A wide variety of project types will be recognized including buildings, bridges, airports, highways, and schools. Representatives from the winning teams will be in attendance to receive plaques and recognition for their role in bringing these remarkable projects to life. All 2017 projects will be featured on slagcement.org as case study examples of outstanding use of slag cement in concrete after the conclusion of the ceremony.
“This session provides a great look at the versatility and durability of slag cement.” Said Ed Griffith, President of the SCA “The SCA’s annual Awards Program provides great case studies highlighting the many different applications of slag cement as well.”
