St Marys Cement/Votorantim Cimentos’ current project Alta Farms Wind Project II covers approximately 12,000 acres in DeWitt County, IL. At a capacity of 200 MW, it will produce enough renewable energy to power over 57,000 U.S. households annually. Prairie Material is supplying high performance concrete using ENVIROCEM™ PLC with 50% slag cement replacement where slag is being used to provide high strength and low heat of hydration for the mass foundations that contain 700 yd3 of concrete for each windmill. The combination of PLC with 50% slag cement replacement lowered CO2 by over 50%.
