More than 2000 yd3 (1500 m3) of concrete was used to construct pavement outside of Newbury, MA, USA. The project, MassDOT Project No. 608494, comprised 9 in. (230 mm) thick pavement, with 1150 linear ft (460m) on Route 1 and 400 linear ft (120 m) on Middle Road. It is the first use of concrete pavement placed in Massachusetts by the Department of Transportation for more than 50 years. Slag cement was used to meet the department’s 50-year service-life requirements.
