Slag Cement: St Marys Cement

This distribution center building in Van Buren Township, MI, USA, was built using a ternary slag cement/limestone blended cement. The concrete finishers reportedly liked the mixture’s plastic characteristics, including its bleeding rate and finishability, and tests verified that the mixture provided the required strength. The blended slag cement helped to lower the global warming potential (GWP) of the cement used in the project by 127 kg of CO2eq/tonne (254 lb of CO2eq/ton) compared to PLC from the same St Marys Cement, Detroit, MI cement plant.
