Located in Andover, Massachusetts, the Principio represents a major investment in bringing American manufacturing into the 21st century. This facility serves as the focal point for the Gillette Business Unit, enabling a more sustainable, agile, and efficient use of resources while keeping production right here in the United States.

To meet the high performance and environmental standards of the project, slag cement was a critical component of the mix design. By utilizing slag at replacement levels between 35 and 50 percent, the team was able to significantly reduce the global warming potential of the concrete.

But the benefits went far beyond sustainability. The slag-enhanced mix was engineered for extreme logistical demands, including the ability to be pumped over distances of up to 500 feet. It also provided the precise set times necessary to achieve a super-flat finish with challenging F-min requirements, ensuring the floor met the rigorous standards of a world-class manufacturing environment.

While achieving 4,000 psi compressive strength and high durability, the slag cement also provided a clean, bright aesthetic that met the specific vision of the architects and engineers. The P&G Gillette project stands as a testament to how slag cement can balance the needs of a heavy-duty industrial site with the aesthetic and environmental goals of a modern corporate leader.

This is a strong example of how modern materials like slag cement can deliver both performance and sustainability at scale. Achieving long pump distances (up to 500 ft) while maintaining workability and meeting strict F-min flatness requirements is impressive.
